  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp hazelnut extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the hazelnut extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Slowly incorporate the milk until the batter is smooth.
  6. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool completely before removing from pans. Layer with hazelnut cream if desired and top with chocolate ganache.
