Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the active sourdough starter with lukewarm water until well combined.
  2. Gradually add in all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt; mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise at room temperature for 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape it into bagels by dividing it into eight equal pieces and poking holes in the center.
  6. Boil each bagel in a pot of boiling water for 1 minute per side, then place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
