  • 6 cups Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (for apple mixture)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (for crust)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (for crust)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 68 tbsp ice water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, mix flour and salt for the crust. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Gradually add ice water to form dough; chill for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out half the dough into a circle larger than your pie dish and place it in the dish.
  5. Fill the crust with the apple mixture. Roll out the remaining dough for the top crust; cut slits for steam to escape.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
