Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: Add olive oil to the well, then stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough: Turn onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let it rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Shape & bake: Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan. Let rise again for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
