  • 8 cups stale bread cubes
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 2 tbsp dried sage
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 3 cups low-sodium vegetable broth
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a large baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Sauté onions and celery until soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine stale bread cubes, sautéed vegetables, sage, thyme, nuts (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Gradually add vegetable broth until the mixture is moistened but not soggy.
  5. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and cover with foil. Bake for 30 minutes; remove foil for the last 10 minutes to brown the top.
