  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 1 medium sweet onion, sliced
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Slice the onion thinly and shape the ground beef into seasoned patties with salt and pepper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté the onions until golden brown (about 15 minutes).
  3. In another skillet, melt the remaining butter over medium-high heat and cook the beef patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned.
  4. Assemble each patty in the skillet with caramelized onions and cheese on top to let it melt slightly.
  5. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread and place them butter-side down in the skillet with the patties. Grill until golden brown on both sides (3-4 minutes).
  6. Slice diagonally and serve hot with pickles or chips.
